Watercolor has a centuries old tradition as a travel medium with artists and architects using the medium as both a travel diary and a means of recording and developing their ideas. The process asks one to slow down and give attention to details and surroundings beyond the camera click. This course will concentrate on developing watercolor techniques to use as a medium for recording while traveling and as a means to render ideas in the form of a visual journal. We’ll make our own accordion style artist watercolor books, develop traditional watercolor skills, and expand on these to allow you to find you own expressive manner as we then take these skills into the landscape and cityscape.

This class is designed to teach youth how to express themselves through contemporary urban art, and to provide them with a foundation of basic design principles. This is a basic course in direct painting. Using a variety of subjects (still life, interiors, landscape), beginners will learn the basics of composition, color theory, and the expressive qualities of paint.
